June P. Barnard

June Phyllis Barnard 96, formerly of Muscatine died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Hillcrest Home in Sumner Iowa. She was born on November 26, 1918 in Muscatine, the only child of George and Bessie Dealing Holliday.

June was married to Robert M. Barnard on May 29, 1941.  She was a superb secretary for several companies during her life.  She was also an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Fremont Ohio, as well as several other churches as they moved around the country in their later years.

June lived an incredibly full life. During WW2, when her husband Robert was serving in Europe, she worked for the McKee Button Company in Muscatine. She never saw a pearl button that she liked, that she didn’t make a comment about it’s beauty. Like the pearl buttons she loved so much, for almost a century, she held together the fabric of multiple generations of a beautiful, loving family. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

June is survived by her husband of 74 years, Robert, Sumner, Iowa; two children, Thomas (Virginia) Barnard, Plano, Texas, and Jane (Rev William) Runaas, Sumner Iowa; 4 grandchildren; Thomas (Christy) Barnard, Catherine (Brian) Lindstrom, Erik Runaas, and Jon (Margie) Runaas; as well as 5 great grandchildren; Aryn Barnard, & Jackson, Kaylee, Leanna and Ella Lindstrom.

June was preceded in death by her parents and grand daughter, Ellen Runaas.

A memorial service to celebrate June’s life, will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, Sumner Iowa, on Monday June 1st at 10:30 a.m., with interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Muscatine Iowa, at a later date. Friends may call for one hour preceding services at the church on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Sumner Iowa.

Dear Bob,
I wanted to let you know how sad I am to hear of June's passing. She was a great lady. Because of the two of you helping us get your house on Woodrow Street we started our own wonderful family. I was thinking about you both a few months ago. Chad is almost 34 and Courtney is 31 with 2 beautiful kids so it's been a few years ago but I will never forget. Heaven gained a wonderful angel!! God Bless!! Cindy Wilkins, Fremont, Ohio
